A big part of why I wasn't a fan of the TV show that almost happened a while ago is that Nancy isn't some BA NYC cop the point of her being a teenage detective from somewhere in the midwest is that she's different, and that show looked like a generic police procedural that just stuck ND names on their own characters. Honestly, I really hope any future games keep Nancy as a wholesome weirdo. I'd just have to make sure the parents of the kiddos I've introduced to the games are informed about the change so they can either avoid the new game(s) and/or have a talk with their littles about them. If Her Interactive ever gets back to actually making games and decides to have Nancy's adventures involve more "mature" content, I'd probably still give it a chance. I can play them with my mom or my nieces and not have to worry about trying to hurry through dark parts or warn them about content they might find questionable.

I wonder if that's the case for most adult fans, though, or if most wouldn't mind seeing Nancy Drew "grow up".įor me, I love the games because of how family-friendly they are, even if that does mean they get a little ridiculous.

But sometimes it's nice to see something refreshingly distanced from that. I can find edgy, dark entertainment anywhere I look. Nancy Drew was my childhood! But when I think about it, I have to admit that part of why I still love the games is because of their endearing lack of "adult" content. I know nostalgia's a big component for me. Now I'm wondering whether this love is largely due to nostalgia, or whether the games really do just have something special that brings us back. It was definitely nice to see I wasn't the only one! When I finally took the time to visit the Facebook page, I was fascinated to see all the people - adults - my age who clearly still loved Nancy Drew. I was never on the message boards or connected to the community I just loved playing the games. After playing the games through most of my childhood, I spent a lot of my very earliest adulthood never mentioning to anyone that I loved Nancy Drew for fear it would seem embarrassingly childish.
